What is regional pricing
Regional pricing in BL Metrics means using historical sales data from your selected region to determine the average price of a part or minifigure, instead of relying on global data that may not reflect your store's reality.
BL Metrics determines the region of a sale based on the currency used in the order. This method offers a reliable approximation of regional market behavior.
We currently support five main regions:
- Europe (based on sales in EUR)
- United States (based on sales in USD)
- Canada (based on sales in CAD)
- United Kingdom (based on sales in GBP)
- Australia (based on sales in AUD)
You can also choose to view World prices if you prefer the full global picture. Prices are available for both new and used conditions, and are tracked separately for parts and minifigures.
How regional pricing works
BL Metrics determines the region of a sale based on the currency used in the order. This method offers a reliable approximation of regional market behavior, but it's important to understand the limits:
- A store in Poland using PLN will not be counted in the Europe region (only EUR orders are included).
- A store outside the US using USD as its currency will be counted as part of the United States region.
While not perfect, this system ensures that most sales are grouped into meaningful market zones, giving you region-specific insights that are far more actionable than global averages.
At the time of writing this guide, there are 8,077 stores using USD, of which 7,471 are based in the United States. These stores generate around 3,100 daily orders on average, with 2,885 (93%) coming from US-based stores.
Similarly, there are 8,313 stores located in Europe, of which 6,367 use the EUR currency. These European stores generate around 2,717 daily orders on average, with 2,144 (79%) coming from stores selling in EUR.
Based on these numbers, we consider the approximation of using order currency as a proxy for region to be accurate enough for practical use. It allows BL Metrics to deliver meaningful regional insights that help sellers price more effectively within their target markets.
Where you'll see regional prices
Regional pricing is fully integrated into BL Metrics. Wherever you see price data, whether for a part, a minifig, or a full set analysis, you're looking at prices relevant to your selected region and condition.
You can control this in two ways:
- Default Region & Condition: Set your preferences in your account settings. These will be used across all modules by default.
- On-the-Fly Switching: In any table or analysis, you can temporarily change the region and condition using the controls in the table headers, no need to change your settings permanently.
This flexibility means you can quickly compare markets, experiment with different strategies, or simply make sure your pricing aligns with your target region.
How to use it effectively
Here are a few practical ways regional pricing can improve your store's performance:
- Smarter Part Pricing: Set your prices based on what buyers in your region are actually paying, not outdated global data.
- Better Set Evaluation: When reviewing a set's part out value, regional prices help avoid overestimating due to inflated prices in other markets, especially with price volatility for new parts.
- Sourcing Decisions: When using the Store Arbitrage module, find underpriced items based on your region's value and demand.
- Refined Pricing Strategies: Use regional data directly in your Smart Pricing formulas to tailor your pricing by market.
Summary
Regional pricing is one of the key features that makes BL Metrics unique. By focusing on the real prices in your real market, you'll make better decisions, optimize your inventory, and price more confidently.
Whether you're adjusting prices, parting out sets, or sourcing inventory, regional data keeps your strategy aligned with the buyers you're actually selling to.
